Upper Cuba St - Homage to Robin White

The subject is the old Austin truck from Robin White's painting and screen prints of Mangaweka. It has been transplanted to upper Cuba Street in Wellington.
A couple of earlier stages of the work are shown above. I start all of my paintings with a monochromatic underpainting, as at left. In this case I have done the sky next, soon to be followed by deeper shadows, and finally some glazes of colour. The finished painting was sold at the 2009 Affordable Art Show. I don't have a picture of its final form.
